“Die Ebbe und Fluth auff einer Flachen Landt-Karten furgestelt”. Very interesting collector's map published in Ulm, Germany (1687-1708). This unusual decorative map describes the ocean currents and the location of active volcanoes. Two curious tracks perhaps marking some kind of subterranean tunnel, link the Caspian Sea with the Black Sea and the Persian Gulf. Although suppositional in some parts, the map is a serious attempt to describe scientific phenomena based on reported findings of seamen and travellers of the XVII century. Map recreated as handmade framed pyro engraving.
